The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) Quick Response Team heads to Agoncillo, Batangas, one of the ash-stricken areas after Taal spewed ash last Sunday. They went there to clean up solar panels and inspect the status of instruments to ensure continuous transmission of data on Taal Volcano activity
While it might seem that there is a slowdown in Taal’s eruption, this should not be taken as a sign of lesser volcanic activity, PHIVOLCS director Renato Solidum said.
Residents who live in the danger zone around the Taal Volcano should stay away until the government advises them to return home. People are warned that the volcano’s calmer appearance sometimes offers a false sense of security.
Taal Volcano has been under Alert Level 4—which warns of a “hazardous” eruption in the next “hours or days” after it spewed gray ash and steam last Sunday.
