Philippine Navy Rewards Public School Teacher Who Returned P210,000 Left in a Bus

Here’s your good news for the week: the Philippine Navy recently recognized Girlie Banalo, a public school teacher from Cavite, after she returned P210,000 after it was left in a bus.

The Philippine Navy shared the news on Facebook:

A HERO WITHIN!

BGen. Emmanuel B Salamat, the Commander of 1st Marine Brigade, awarded a Plaque of Recognition to Ms. Gerlie D Banalo, a teacher of Cavite National High School on April 5, 2016. This is in line with the Brigade’s grateful recognition of her outstanding display of honesty and trustworthiness for returning the amount of Php210,000.00 to SSgt. Christopher Morales which was left behind by the latter in a public utility bus plying the Cavite-Manila route. Her selfless action has brought credit and prestige not only to herself, the Cavite National High School and the Department of Education but to the Filipino nation as a whole.

Banalo responded to the post, saying:

Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat. To God be the glory. May this simple act inspire us to be good people wherever we are so we can bless the lives of others. My gratitude too to BGen Salamat for acknowledging me.

One of the humblest men I met. God bless us all.
