Philippine Language to be established in a Chinese University

While English is the universal language, many Universities and Colleges worldwide have acquired other languages such as German, Italian, French, just to name a few, to be included in a curriculum or program.

Interestingly, as stated in the article shared by the DFA.gov.ph, a Chinese university in Yunnan province is determined in establishing a Philippine language in its main campus in Kunming province next year.

Furthermore, the article stated that the said desire was derived from the Philippine Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Elizabeth Buensuceso’s report to DFA, following a council meeting with Yunnan Minzu University officials and students.

The ambassador also expressed interest that Yunnan Minzu University could promote more educational exchanges between ASEAN and China. The Ambassador also cited De La Salle University for promoting collaborative workshops; students and faculty exchanges; language and cultural studies; and seminars, as stated in the article.

The three (3) Universities De La Salle University have agreement with are:

  • Shanghai Jao Tong University
  • School of International Relations and Public Affairs – Fudan University
  • School of Natural Sciences and Humanities – Harbin Institute of Technology in Shenzhen

Currently, the Yunnan Minzu University offers language programs and scholarships to international students from Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR and Cambodia.

This is truly a tangible proof that we are close to becoming diverse. I am excited about this and hopeful this pushes through.
