Philippine Comedy: Silly People's Improv Theater (SPIT) Performs and Brings Laughs at Quantum Cafe

When in Manila, where people love to have a good laugh even from the corniest or most ridiculous jokes, catch the most popular comedic group in this side of town called SPIT otherwise known as Silly People’s Improv Theater. Branded to be an intelligent, interactive, and immersive improv comedy, SPIT has been uplifting the hearts of many with their hilarious jokes, witty comments, and impromptu remarks. Established by Gabe Mercado and his friends in 2002, SPIT has performed in numerous events, restaurants and venues all over the country.

Known for their unique and entertaining games that involve the crowd from their seats, SPIT heavily relies on the actions and reactions of their audience to be able to pull off a good show. Giving examples of their stunts might reveal too much and spoil it, so I’ll just leave you hanging for now. The first time I caught SPIT was in RCBC Plaza in Makati, where my then Fine Arts professor, Missy Maramara, performed and gave such an unforgettable show. The second time I watched them again was in school, where Ariel Diccion, legendary Filipino professor in Ateneo, enacted and was definitely a crowd-favorite. Watching them in Quantum Café last Thursday, April 12, was my third time and even then, I could not stop laughing. Each show is so different from the rest, and once you’ve seen them you’ll surely want to come back for more. It’s the good kind of addiction that leaves your stomach aching from too much laughter.
