We have another film making waves on the international stage: Eduardo Roy Jr.’s Pamilya Ordinaryo, an entry from this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, won the BNL People’s Choice Award in the 13th Venice Days, an independently-run section of the Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Pamilya Ordinaryo scored 70.3 percent of the vote from the audience, who also engaged with the team after the screening.

The film won best picture, best director, best actress, best editing, and the Netpac (Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema) jury prize at the Cinemalaya awards night.

BNL stands for Bank National Labor, the award’s major sponsor.

The award was presented to Roy, his main actors Ronwaldo Martin and Hasmine Killip, and producers Almond Derla and Ferdinand Lapuz.

Killip also stunned at a red-carpet event, wearing a revealing white gown designed by John Herrera.

The Venice Days is patterned after the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival in France, and features “quality cinema, without restriction, with an eye for innovation, research, originality of expression, the independent and productive independence.” The Venice Film Festival is the oldest in the world and is part of the “Big Three,” which also includes Cannes and the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.
