2017 is rapidly coming to a close, which means that it’s that time of year again when Pantone announces it’s “It” color for next year.

And while we’ve been treated to some pretty amazing hues in recent years (2016’s Rose Quartz and Serenity, anyone?), purple lovers will get a kick out of this: 2018’s Pantone Color of the Year is Ultra Violet, or Pantone 18-3838 TCX.

In a statement by Pantone’s Vice President Laurie Pressman, she said:

“The color we select to be our Pantone Color of the Year is one which we think best communicates what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time. A color we see crossing all areas of design that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude on the part of the consumers.”

Meanwhile, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute said that Ultra Violet “communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking”, citing influences such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Wagner, and Prince.

Last year’s Pantone color was Greenery.
