International bestselling author and social media sensation Lang Leav is here in Manila for the weekend for her ‘Sad Girls’ book signing tour.

We got to meet her up-close and personal and asked her a couple of things about her recent venture on writing a novel and about life, in general.

We’ll take you to the pages behind her poetry with 10 things you probably didn’t know about Lang Leav!

LANG LEAV-4“Remember, your words are your power. Never forget your words.” -Lang Leav

10. When in Manila, she likes to visit the sea.

Yep, Lang shared with us her excitement to spend a day chilling by the sea when she arrives in Cebu for her weekend in the Philippines.

9. Before she got into writing, Lang grew up in a refugee camp and was an artist and fashion designer.

She worked really hard as an artist and as a fashion designer before she started to write. “Your words are like building blocks for your dreams,” Lang reminisced.

8. Her favorite holiday was a trip to Bali.

We asked what her favorite holiday was and Lang talked about her recent trip to Bali with her partner, Michael Faudet, where they had a few days to just relax and spend time together.

7. Lang’s ideal date would be a drive-thru at McDonald’s.

We weren’t surprised when she told us her favorite fast-food is the world’s largest restaurant chain. We asked her to try out our local fast-food as well!

6. Michael is her creative soul mate.

When asked what impact her partner, Michael, has brought into her life, Lang said she’s thankful to meet someone who is creatively in line with her. They share a synergy, she said.

5. Storytelling has been a real love of hers.

It’s no wonder that the transition from poetry to novel was natural to this writer. For Sad Girls, her routine involved getting up early in the morning, drinking a cup of coffee, and heading straight to writing her daily goal of 2-3 thousand words a day.

And we could so totally relate!

3. Most of her dreams have already come true for her.

We asked what her “one great dream” was and she said that most of her dreams have already come true for her. Now, she’s looking forward to life, hanging out with her partner and son, and enjoying life and what she’s doing.

2. Her tip for aspiring writers is to read widely.

“Your favorite authors are your best teachers,” she emphasized. And that with reading widely comes writing often as well.

1. She definitely likes pineapples on her pizza.

Another point for Team Pineapples on Pizza!

‘Sad Girls’ is Lang Leav’s much-awaited contemporary novel. An emotionally charged coming-of-age story, it follows Audrey, a young girl suffering from panic attacks after the death of her classmate, Ana. She soon meets the enigmatic Rad, the boy who would turn it all around. But their ill-timed romance may prove to be more dangerous for her than she ever expected.

Leav will be at the Northwing Atrium, SM City Cebu on June 24, and at the Glorietta 2 Activity Center Palm Drive on June 25.
