There’s a special place in the underworld for men who grab women in the middle of the day along the busy Magallanes Interchange. And you can get a P200,000 reward from the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) if you help catch these people.

Last September, two women were abducted (on separate occasions) and molested  by at least four men in a tinted van. One victim, who is 21 years old, was walking along EDSA-Magallanes when a van stopped next to her, and someone grabbed her inside. The following day, she found herself in a grassy area in Malolos, Bulacan.

The other incident involves a 14 year old student, who was abducted along Kalayaan Avenue. It is suspected that the abductors were the same men.

What makes the whole situation extra scary is that it has probably been going on for a while now. The same time last year, a 19 year old transgender student was also abducted along the Magallanes Interchange. According to her, there were four Middle Eastern-looking men, who beat her and molested her.

“I thought the driver was trying to run me over because the van was right beside me, but when its door opened, two men pulled me and pushed me inside the van. I fought them, but they were too strong for me,” she said. They moved her to the back of the van, where they molested her while the van was moving. When they were done, they left her on a road in Laguna.

To address the situation, MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino implemented the large reward to anyone who can help identify and capture the suspects. Besides the reward, he has asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to increase security and install more CCTVs in the area.
