Oprah Isn’t Running for US President

While fans may have thought of Oprah Winfrey as a worthy candidate for president following her rousing speech at the Golden Globe awards, hold your horses — the media mogul isn’t going to be running for office anytime soon.

In an interview with InStyle, Oprah was asked how she felt about the “Oprah 2020” movement that went viral online following her Golden Globes speech. The famous host said that she did see a mug with a slogan on it, but mentioned that she’s not interested in the presidency.

Speaking to Laura Brown, Oprah said:

“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it. I met with someone the other day who said that they would help me with a campaign. That’s not for me. Gayle—who knows me as well as I know myself practically—has been calling me regularly and texting me things, like a woman in the airport saying, ‘When’s Oprah going to run?’ So Gayle sends me these things, and then she’ll go, ‘I know, I know, I know! It wouldn’t be good for you—it would be good for everyone else.’”

Oprah is certainly an inspiring figure, but she doesn’t need to be president to touch people’s lives.
