Fans of TLC and SWV had a great time last Sunday, as the two girl groups from the ’90s visited the Philippines for a back-to-back concert at Smart Araneta Coliseum. The singers performed their hits “No Scrubs,” “Waterfalls,” “Unpretty,” “Weak,” and “Right Here,” to the delight of the crowd.

The crowd was eagerly waiting for the show to start, not knowing how the concert will play out. Will TLC and SWV perform together? If not, who will perform first? When the crowd saw the girls of SWV walk on stage, with different-colored hair, everyone went crazy.

SWV is one of the most successful R&B girl groups in the ’90s, who shot to fame after the release of their first album It’s About Time in 1992, with the songs “Right Here,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Weak.” The album was nominated for 11 Billboard Music Awards.

The band, composed of Coko Gambles, Taj Honson, and Lelee Lyons, also released New Beginning in 1996 and Release Some Tension in 1997, then splitting the following year to focus on their individual careers. They reunited in 2012 for I Missed Us and Still in 2016.

They started the night with a spirited rendition of “Can We,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Right Here.” When the crowd heard the opening notes of “Right Here,” everyone stood up while those in the back of the VIP section went forward and danced in the aisles.

SWV also performed their newer songs, such as “Rain,” “Co-Sign,” and “MCE (Man Crush Every Day).” Of course, an SWV concert wouldn’t be complete without the group singing “Weak.” Everyone sang along with the trio.

During their set, SWV praised TLC. They said, “Give it up for our home girls, some girls that we look up to. We would not be here today had it not be for them!”

SWV ended their set with an encore performance of “Anything.”

After a brief break, the energy went right back up as T-Boz and Chilli of TLC entered the stage. Everyone went wild when they opened their set with “What About Your Friends,” “Baby Baby Baby,” “Creep,” “Diggin on You” and “Unpretty.” Of course, everyone sang along.

Like SWV, TLC was a successful R&B girl group in the ’90s, and is the best-selling American girl group of all time after selling 75 million records worldwide. They have also won multiple awards, including five Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, and five Soul Train Music Awards. In 2002, the third member, Left Eye, died in a car crash. Despite that, T-Boz and Chilli decided to still perform as a duo.

TLC saved “Waterfalls” for its final number in their concert, performing an extended version of it. According to the members, “Waterfalls” is Left Eye’s favorite TLC song.

The TLC and SWV concert in Manila was a nostalgic night for fans, and one that they will never forget.
