Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao for Offensive Comments on the LGBT Community

No matter where you go on the Internet right now, you are sure to read people’s comments on Manny Pacquiao’s anti-LGBT comments, wherein he describes the LGBT community as “mas masahol pa sa hayop” [translation: “worse than animals”]. Well, word has reached the sportswear company Nike, with which Manny has had a long-term relationship with, and the brand is not happy. In fact, they have officially dropped Manny Pacquiao from their roster of endorsers for making this comment.

Despite Manny’s attempts at apologising to the LGBT community, Nike recently issued a statement, saying, “We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”

Nike has previously terminated the contracts of cyclist Lance Armstrong for the use of illegal drugs, football players Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson for domestic violence and sprinter Oscar Pistorius for homicide. Now, Manny Pacquiao is also part of the list.

What do you think of this news? Do you think Manny’s contract was rightfully terminated?
