The enhanced community quarantine has separated many of us from our loved ones, but it’s still important to keep a positive outlook and hope and pray for a better tomorrow. While trying to maintain some sort of normalcy in our daily lives, why not try to have long distance movie nights with your loved ones even from afar?
Fortunately, doing that is possible now, thanks to Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension that will allow you to get together with your loved ones online and watch a Netflix movie or even binge-watch a Netflix show at the same time. There’s a chat room in the extension, too, so you can chat as you watch. Basically, it’s the feature I’ve always wished Netflix had had all this time.
To use it, everyone who wants to take part in the watch party will need Google Chrome, the extension, and a subscription to Netflix. Then, visit netflixparty.com on Google Chrome and click on “Get Netflix Party for free!” Click on “Add to Chrome” and then “Add extension” in the pop-up window. NP, or Netflix Party, will then show up on the top right of Google Chrome. After that, go to netflix.com on Google Chrome and play your choice of movie or TV show before clicking on the NP button.
Once ready, click on “Start the Party”, copy the URL that shows up, and send the URL to everyone who wants to watch. After clicking on the link, everyone will need to log into their accounts and click on the NP button on Google Chrome. Everyone in the watch party will be able to pause, fast-forward, and rewind what you’re watching unless you click on the “Only I Have Control” box, by the way.
