MTRCB Reprimands “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” Episode For “Foul Language”

ABS-CBN was in hot water after the May 29 episode of “Pangako Sa ‘Yo”, which included vulgar language about “sex and women”, according to the MTRCB.

The MTRCB singled out the episode where a scene involving Eduardo Buenavista (Ian Veneracion) and his mother Benita (Pilar Pilapil), where Eduardo was opposing his engagement to Claudia (Angelica Panganiban), which was announced without his knowledge.

According to reports, the MTRCB pointed out the line uttered by Pilar Pilapil’s character to her son, “Kung pampa-lipas libog lang ‘yan, that’s okay. Go ahead!” when Eduardo said that he was in love with Amor, a poor girl whose father worked for their family’s mining company.

According to the MTRCB, the report was made:

“in regard to sex and the insinuation that it is okay to use a woman for the mere purpose of satisfying one’s fleshy desires even if he is already engaged to another woman, [is] obviously meant for a mature audience.”

Reports also said that MTRCB noted that the episode was rated PG-13, which meant that the episode welcomed children under 13 to watch. The SPG rating is provided for episodes with stronger themes not advisable for children.
