Missing UP Student Ian Calalang Comes Home – Collegian

The freshman University of the Philippines student, Ian Jasper Calalang, who was reported missing for 21 days, is now home, the Philippine Collegian reports.

missing UP student now found

Last month, the Engineering student was reported missing after leaving their home to enroll at the UP campus in Quezon City.

Separate blotter reports had been filed as soon as they knew Ian was missing. As mentioned in the report, Ian’s mother, Nenette Calalang, said she last received a text message from her son at 8:22 AM, informing them that he has arrived on campus. Unfortunately, at around 11:45 AM, after asking him regarding the enrolment, Mrs. Calalang didn’t receive any response. She confirmed that Ian is “systematic” and impossible not to respond right away.

After which, they had filed blotter reports at the following police stations:

  • UPD Police and Station 9 of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on January 13
  • Cainta Police on January 14
  • Camp Karingal, the QCPD’s main headquarters on January 15.

As luck would have it and as confirmed by Ian’s mother, he has returned home at around 11 PM last night at their residence in Cainta, Rizal.

Momentarily, the family has declined to disclose any information as yet, to protect Ian’s privacy. The Calalang family, however, informed the police about his return and very much appreciative of all those people who offered help and sent prayers during the search.

As a parent myself, I could feel the fear and happiness of finally knowing the child is alive. Hopefully, this will serve as a lesson to everyone, especially, the parents to be vigilant at all times.
