Miss Saigon’s Jon Jon Briones Gets Laurence Olivier Nomination

Jon Jon Briones nominated Laurence Olivier

Filipino stage actor Jon Jon Briones, who currently stars as “The Engineer” in the West End revival of “Miss Saigon”, has been nominated for Best Actor in a Musical in the Laurence Olivier Awards in London, according to GMA News!

Miss Saigon is also nominated for Best Musical Revival, the report says.

The Laurence Olivier Award is the most prestigious honor in British theater, similar to the Tony Awards for Broadway in the United States, and is considered as one of the highest awards in the theater community.

Jon Jon was part of the original cast of Miss Saigon which opened to audiences in 1989, which catapulted Lea Salonga to global stardom as the protagonist, Kim. Lea Salonga later won an Olivier for Best Actress in a Musical in 1990.

According to the report, the Laurence Olivier awards is presented every year by the Society of London Theatre. Its past winners include famous actors such as Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Spacey, and Jonathan Pryce, who originated Jon Jon’s role in the original cast.

The Laurence Olivier awards will take place on April 12, Monday night in Manila time.
