As if we Pinoys really needed convincing otherwise, but we appreciate Miss Australia’s effort to set the record straight in light of the controversy surrounding the recently concluded Miss Universe 2015 pageant.
Miss Australia, Monika Radulovic, went on Australian morning show Sunrise when she was asked about the events that transpired during the crowning portion of Miss Universe.
“It was unbelievable, I still can’t believe it happened”, Miss Australia said of the much-talked about gaffe when host Steve Harvey initially announced the wrong winner, Ariadna Gutierrez, who represented Colombia.
Monika also went on to say that the contestants knew that Pia was the real winner of the competition. “The girls [the rest of us 77 contestants] were on the sideline, on the stage, and we actually saw on the teleprompter. It said: “Philippines, please take your first walk as Miss Universe.”
She then also said that this caused confusion among the contestants, and when they saw Steve back “with a worried look on his face”, they already knew what had happened.
Miss Australia then joined the other candidates in consoling Miss Colombia after Pia was crowned, and she had not spoken to Pia since because of the latter’s very busy schedule, but she wished her good luck and thought that Pia “would make a great Miss Universe”.
