Meet the Filipino Solo Artist Who’s Making a Comeback in South Korea

If you’ve been following the K-Pop scene, you’ve probably heard of a young Filipino solo artist, born here in the Philippines and raised in California, USA, who is gradually making a name in South Korea. She debuted on May 24 this year and, soon, she’ll be making her first comeback with a second album.

Below is the official post shared by her agency on the newly created Instagram account that is dedicated to her comeback:

Her name is Kriesha Chu. Sounds familiar? That’s most likely because you’ve seen her on the 6th and last season of SBS Kpop Star, a South Korean reality TV competition for aspiring idols. She finished as a runner-up alongside two other trainees in a group called KWINs.

About a month after the competition, her agency, Urban Works Entertainment, announced that Chu will be making a debut as a solo artist. Her debut appears to have been a success with both of her songs, ‘Trouble’ and ‘I Want You,’ charting on Korean and international music charts.

In fact, her song ‘I Want You’ ranked 5th on both iTunes and Spotify Philippines while ‘Trouble’ placed 28th and 23rd, respectively. Her songs also charted in neighboring Asian countries, Thailand and Singapore. In addition, her debut performance on music program Inkigayo ranked no. 1 on Naver TV.

Now, a couple of months later, the 18-year-old (20 in Korea) talented Filipina-American is set to make a return to the K-Pop scene. One of her agency’s trainees, Min Joo, is also expected to join her in this comeback. Her agency hasn’t released a comeback date yet, but more photo teasers and videos are expected to be uploaded to social media, soon.
