Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – 5 Exciting Factors to Look Forward to

 

Finally, one of the most anticipated movies of 2014 has arrived! Say hello to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy!

 

 

To the unacquainted, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” (or GotG for short) is a movie about a special group of individuals caught in a cosmic conflict within the Marvel cinematic universe. The movie feels like Marvel’s lighter version of Avengers-meets-Star Wars.

After stealing a mysterious orb, Peter Quill (Parks and Recreation‘s Chris Patt) finds himself at war against the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe. Peter is the forced to face the worst enemies with a team of strangers- superpowered strangers, for that matter: a the genetically engineered, cybernetic raccoon (Rocket Raccoon), a walking sentient tree (Groot), a Hulk-like human-turned-alien (Drax the Destroyer), and a female assassin tagged as the “most dangerous woman in the universe” (Gamora).

If you don’t know what else to expect in the lesser-known Marvel movie, don’t worry because I’ll do my best to help you out and set your expectations. Thanks to Power Plant Mall Cinemas, I’m here to give you a rundown of what to expect and to get excited about in the newly-released Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – 5 Exciting Factors to Look Forward to

 

1. The movie’s technical awesomeness

Everyone sets high expectations on a Marvel movie, especially in terms of animation, graphics, sound and special effects, and overall production. If you liked the technical aspects of the previous Marvel movies like The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Thor: The Dark World, I’m sure you’ll love the cinematic awesomeness of this movie, as well.

 

 

In terms of visual effects and computer animation, GotG is beyond excellent: from the CGI animation of a talking raccoon down to the special effects in each frame of each scene. But that’s to be expected given that Disney’s running the whole show.

 

 

Despite being heavily reliant on the “green screen”, GotG manages to be satisfying in terms of cinematography and screenwriting (more of this on the third sub-section), as well. It’s not Cannes Film Festival quality, but it’s good for a CGI-heavy movie.

Aside from that, the movie also has a great soundtrack and makes great use of their epic signature sound effects to complete this superhero movie.

 

2. The crazily star-studded cast

Chris Patt as humorous adventurer Peter Quill ak.a. Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana as the hot alien assassin chick Gamora; Bradley Cooper voicing the talking, rocket-firing raccoon; Vin Diesel voicing the powerful yet lovable Groot (though all he says throughout the movie is one line: “I am Groot”); and WWE superstar Batista as badass Drax. WHO ELSE WOULD YOU NEED TO ADD TO THIS ALREADY AWESOME CAST?

 

 

I seriously know some people who will watch Guardians of the Galaxy just because Bradley Cooper is voicing a raccoon. Seriously.

 

 

 

And I know some people who want to watch the film because they want to see WWE’s Dave Bautista clobber aliens this time instead of wrestlers in tights and spandex.

 

 

While star-studded movies are usually problematic because of the spotlight tension among the celebrities involved, GotG works out just fine – better than you’d expect for such an ensemble of actors, actually.

 

 

3. The humor and hilarity

Among all of the Marvel movies I’ve watched, GotG has got to be the most hilarious one.

 

 

It has the kind of humour you’d typically only find in TV sitcoms and comedy movies. And the amazing thing is that it works for the movie, perfectly balancing the action, the drama, and the storyline. It’s a risk for a movie, especially a superhero one, but it works anyway. Though I’m not sure if the die-hard advocates of the comic book version of GotG will like what the screenwriters did.

Humor and comedy aside, the film also evokes good vibes to its audience with the various themes incorporated in the movie, like friendship (Rocket and Groot’s, to be specific), familial love, the problem of power and greed, and the value of teamwork.

I advise you to listen and listen well to get the most out of the hilarity and goodness that is GotG.

 

4. The references (both inside and outside the Marvel Universe)

I’m telling you as early as now that you don’t need to be Marvel fanatic or a comic book reader to enjoy GotG.

Sure, you’d probably enjoy it more and understand the what’s and why’s of the movie some more, but it’s not true that non-fans would not appreciate it.

 

 

Aside from the comic book Easter eggs and inter-Marvel Universe references that I’m sure every Marvel fan is dying to see and figure out, there are other references that I’m sure the ordinary viewer will enjoy, as well. Take for example the 80’s songs played in some parts of the movie. I’m sure some of those songs will take the older audiences down to memory lane.

 

5. The post-GotG possibilities

And finally, after watching Guardians of the Galaxy, I’m sure you can’t wait to know what effects and impact the movie’s production will have on the Marvel cinematic story line. 

I’m not promising anything, but some fan theorists have suggested on the possibility of featuring GotG characters in future Marvel movies. Yes, movies like The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

As of the moment, nothing has been confirmed regarding crossovers from the GotG storyline and the Avengers storyline yet. But wouldn’t you just love to see Iron Man team up with Rocket Raccoon? Or The Hulk face it off with Drax the Destroyer? Or even Gamora take it up a notch with Natasaha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow (a.k.a. Scarlett Johansson)?

Or better yet, because of Thanos as their common factor and enemy, who doesn’t want to see the Guardians of the Galaxy team up with the Avengers themselves to face the most powerful villain in Marvel? I’m getting goosebumps right now just thinking about it! I can’t wait for the next Marvel movie!
