Maniacal 2017

As the summer heat turns up to a full throttle, so does our craving for some live-action commedia de l’arte. If you wish to quench your thirst for some theater experience, the students of the University of the Philippines Los Baños will be staging MANIACAL, a Palanca award-winning play written by George de Jesus III.

MANIACAL will put to light the lives of people who chose their passion for art despite its financial risks. A story that goes beyond illustrating theater as just another medium of expression, de Jesus III reveals the various personalities of theater artists –from artists who love to act to artists who breathe for it – through theater acting techniques and witticisms.

This ‘prod-ception’ production will enlighten the audience on the professionalism of theater, that acting is more than just saying the lines with proper intonation and facial expression, and the struggles that theater artists face in this modernized world. Just like what Stella Adler, a renowned theater icon, said, “The theater was created, to tell the truth about life and the social situation.”

The curtains will open on the 25th to the 27th of April, 2017, 7 p.m. at UPLB’s NCAS Auditorium. For inquiries, you can contact Alex Jamisola at 09359610579 .
