One of the most iconic Filipino films is Madrasta, starring Sharon Cuneta. Fans (and the new generation) can get to see this cinematic masterpiece again as ABS-CBN Film Archive has restored and remastered it!
The digitally restored and remastered copy will be available on iTunes starting September 22 and will be available in 43 countries in Asia, North America, Europe, and Africa.
Madrasta was released in 1996, and follows Cuneta as Mariel, who marries Edward, played by Christopher de Leon. Mariel struggles to play the perfect wife, taking care of his kids (played by Claudine Barretto, Patrick Garcia, and Camille Pratts) even as they reject her.
The film was so well-received that it was nominated for 10 awards at the FAMAS Awards, winning Best Actress for Cuneta and Best Child Actor for Garcia.
It was also nominated for 10 awards at the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), winning Best Actress for Cuneta and Best Original Song for the song “Madrasta.”
Cuneta also won Best Actress at the Gawad Urian.
