If you’re a driver in the Philippines, expect something different because the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is releasing the new design of the driver’s license card.

LTO is releasing new designs after running out of PVC cards last year, which resulted in people renewing their licenses getting pieces of paper as a temporary license.

The new cards will feature color-coded classifications and upgrades on the design and security features.

Professional and non-professional drivers will still use the blue card, while student drivers will get an orange card (instead of the paper licenses) and conductors will get yellow cards.

LTO also added new security features that will prevent people from faking their licenses.

According to spokesperson Jason Salvador, those who get caught will have their license revoked for one year.

As for the design, the new cards will have the words “height,” “weight,” and “agency” spelled out, and the words Philippines and millennium removed. The re-design will have an enhanced resolution and bigger fonts.

The agency is currently seeking permission from the Department of Finance to lower the cost of acquiring a license from P150 to P70.
