On Friday, I checked out the live demo of the Moverio BT-300.
For starters, the Moverio BT-300 is a pair of augmented reality (AR) smart glasses from Epson. It features cutting edge silicon-based OLED (organic light emitting diode) digital display technology that enables the device to be like a lightweight see-through binocular smart glasses. Apparently, Epson claims that it will set the new standard for augmented reality.
In my experience, Epson partnered with DJI, a popular manufacturer of drones, to develop drone applications for the Moverio BT-300.
We were able to test it out and it was really cool!
With the Moverio BT-300, you can operate the drone with the same view as the camera that is located on the drone itself. In a way, it gives a feeling like you are riding on and flying on the drone.
This AR smart glasses won Best New Wearable Device at the IDTechEx Wearable Europe 216 Awards in recognition of its usefulness and innovation.
At present, Epson is continuously working with businesses and independent software vendors to develop apps. Its partnership with DJI aims to enhance safety, productivity, and piloting experience for hobbyists and professionals.
Using the optimized DJI Go app for the Moverio BT-300 smart glasses, drone pilots can see crystal clear, transparent first person view (FPV) from the drone camera while simultaneously maintaining the line of sight with the drone. The timely partnership of Epson and DJI looks to expand the use of drones for a variety of aerial photography and videography purposes.
The Epson Moverio BT-300 will be out this 2017 across Southeast Asia including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
