Camera flashes and voice recorders welcomed me when I entered the Romblon Room of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza. The fangirl in me couldn’t stop smiling when he’s finally called on stage. That’s right! Canadian singer, song-writer, and Vine legend Shawn Mendes, live in the flesh in Manila.

Mendes arrived on Wednesday and fans went crazy when he posted some photos on Instagram. Enjoying the Philippines, Shawn?
He even had time to travel all the way to Balite Falls, Cavite.
Here are some of the many questions that he answered for the media:
“I see that you have a lot of photos with your fans, I know a lot of celebrities who are scared. Why are you so open?”
Shawn: “I think it’s important because when I’m creating music, I think my fans that have met me and got to spend time with me will understand it that much more and connect with me (that much) more because they actually do know me as a person instead of just knowing what I look like. It’s important for me to make that connection because they understand my music better.”
“You are not yet 20. How does it feel like to be very successful at your age right now? Can you give us (info) like on how your day goes?”
Shawn:Â “It’s amazing! It’s been more fun than anything and none of my days are the same. A couple of days ago I was in Toronto and now I am in the Philippines. So, you know, every single day is different.
“How are you in the dating scene?”
Shawn:Â “Is that what you call it in Manila? *laughs* I don’t have a girlfriend, if that’s what you mean.”
“You have a lot of fans in the Philippines. Have you tried interacting with them?”
Shawn: “Yah! They’re like in the hotel, like in the lobby. I’ve seen them everywhere and they’re awesome, very passionate.”
“What song is the closest to your heart?”
Shawn:Â “A lot of my music is close to my heart. Three Empty Words is very close to my heart since it’s very personal.”

Shawn is known for his global hit songs “Stitches” and “Treat You Better” along with major awards like the 2017 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award Favorite Male Singer, and 2016 People’s Choice Award Favorite Breakout Artist. The 18-year-old hit the Mall of Asia Arena stage on March 18th 2017, as part of his Illuminate Tour.
