Many of us complain about being overworked and underpaid, without realizing that we should be thankful that we have jobs in the first place. But not this guy. Instead of grumbling about selling tinapa (dried fish) under a train station, he’s happy doing it. And did we mention he’s elderly?
Social media user Dang Mandap Javier saw this elderly man under the LRT Monumento Station and decided to take a photo. According to him:
Baka mapadaan po kayo sa kahabaan ng Monumento sa baba ng LRT Monumento Station, tapat ng North Mall lang po nandun po si Lolo, nagtitinda po siya ng tinapa. Tulungan naman po natin sya kahit sa pagbili lang ng mga paninda niya. Kinukurot ang puso ko tuwing nakikita ko siya don. Matanda na pero nag hahanapbuhay pa din para lang kumita ng pera. Ngayon ko lang naisipan na picturan siya baka sakali makatulong ako sa kanya sa pamamagitan ng pag post ko ng litrato niya. Makikita sa mukha niya yung saya niya tuwing may bibili sa kanya. Ang nakakatuwa pa sa kanya, ayaw niyang kunin yung sukli kahit binibigay na namin. Okay na daw yung makabenta siya. Nakakaluha at nakakatouch. Matanda na pero naghahanapbuhay ng marangal.
(If ever you pass by the LRT Monumento Station, you’ll find Lolo in front of the North Mall, selling smoked fish. Let’s help him by buying his fish. I feel sad whenever I see him there. He’s elderly but he still works so he can earn. I thought of taking his picture so I can help him by posting it online. You can see the happiness in his face when someone buys from him. The good thing is that he doesn’t even get the change even if we give it to him. He says he’s happy by selling. It makes me tear up. He’s already old but he still has an honest job.)
