LOOK: Historical Photos of July 4, Republic Day

Today is Republic Day. On July 4, 1946, the Philippine Independence was formally recognized by the United States. On the said date,  Manuel Roxas took his oath of office for the second time signifying the elimination of the pledge of allegiance to the US. This time, Pressident Roxas was sworn in as the President of the Republic of the Philippines and not the Commonwealth.  Below are some  photographs of that eventful day in our country’s history:

The Philippine Independence Day was celebrated every July 4 until 1962 when President Diosdado Macapagal issued a proclamation moving it to June 12, the date when the Philippines proclaimed independence from Spain.
