Fans of superhero movies, we have great news: there’s going to be a new caped crusader appearing in cinemas next year. Captain Underpants will have his own film adaptation!

Captain Underpants is based on a series of novels by Dav Pilkey, and follows two fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, who hypnotize their principal Mr. Krupp into believing he is a superhero who only wears his underwear. The series includes 12 books and three spin-offs.

The novels were released from 1997 to 2015, and have sold more than 70 million copies worldwide. Despite its popularity, it was one of the most frequently challenged books by the American Library Association in 2012. It was also banned in several schools for encouraging children to disobey authority.

The adaptation will be a combination of animation, hand-drawn comic sequences, sock puppet scenes, and even the Flip-o-Ramas that are in the series. There’s no word which books will be included in the film, but the villain will be Professor Poopypants.

Beard and Hutchins will be voiced by Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch, while Mr. Krupp will be voiced by Ed Helms and Professor Poopyants will be voiced by Nick Kroll. David Soren will serve as director.

Captain Underpants will be screened on June 2, 2017.
