LOOK: Former Maid Fulfills Dream of Becoming PMA Graduate

She made it!

Meriam Libongcogon worked as a maid for five years prior to becoming a Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet. She worked doing household chores to support her family and her studies.

Recently, Libongcogon was part of the PMA Salaknib Class of 2017. She has the rank of junior commissioned officer, as an ensign in the Philippine Navy.

On her Facebook page, she said:

From being a housemaid to a soldier..

I thank God above all for making me who I am today. From serving families, He called me to serve my country and my fellow men..

All praise, glory and thanksgiving be to God, my loving and merciful Lord…

At a young age, she revealed that her family has been struggling to make ends meet. Hence, she decided to work as a maid before.

In 2013, Libongcogon entered the academy. Although her family didn’t agree at first due to the dangers that come with the job, eventually they supported her.

Although the road towards graduating was not easy, Libongcogon said that quitting never crossed her mind.

Someday, she dreams of building a house for her parents in Balamban, Cebu.

Congrats Meriam!
