Jay-Ann Labasano is a 17-year-old Grade 11 student from Northern Mindanao Region. She hails from Bukidnon. At this year’s Palarong Pambansa, she did an amazing feat. She bested all her opponents at the 3000-meter dash barefoot where she won gold.
A first-timer for the race, Jay-Ann recorded 10:32.67. She was ahead by 11 seconds from second-placer Jie Anne Calis from the National Capital Region (NCR).
Jay-Ann, who is the daughter of a farmer, said that she feels more comfortable running barefoot. Although she has a pair of shoes that she uses during training, she chose to run barefoot for the competition.
Running barefoot is no joke especially if you train frequently. Hence, her feet are covered in band-aid.
