LOOK: Barbie is Now a Game Developer

LOOK Barbie is Now a Game Developer

Mattel is on a roll. After releasing a new line of Barbie dolls with different body types and skin tones, Mattel has just released a new Barbie… and she is a game developer.

Unlike the ultra-feminine Barbie dolls we’re familiar with, this one sports a shirt (with a Ctrl Alt Barbie design), a jacket, and jeans. She even has red hair.

And the best part? She’s typing actual code on her tiny laptop.

The Javascript on the laptop is care of Molly Proffitt, CEO of Ker-Chunk Games, LCC., who was tapped by Mattel to make game developer Barbie authentic.

Proffitt told The Huffington Post: “I really know that girls need an icon that shows that they can be a part of the [tech] space and Barbie does that. She has power to tell girls they can be makers and builders.”

Game developer is the doll’s Career of the Year. Previously, she was a fashion designer, movie director, entrepreneur, and Mars explorer. As a game developer, she does storytelling, art and graphic design, audio design, and computer programming.

Accessories include a laptop with stickers, a tablet, and a headset.

Last October, Mattel released a commercial for Barbie, with the message “you can be anything,” including a neuroscience professor, a football coach, a businesswoman, a museum tour guide, and a veterinarian.

Game developer Barbie costs $12.99 (roughly P558.57) and is reportedly sold out on the Mattel website.
