Leeroy New has been making waves in the art scene in the Philippines and abroad. His works overlap with theatre, film, fashion, and visual arts is currently known as one of the designers alongside Kermit Tesoro for the muscle dress, a dress worn by Lady Gaga in her music video, Marry The Night.
Though many have described Leeroy New’s artworks as ‘out of this world’, his works take inspiration from organic environments and lifeforms in spite of a lifelong immersion in Manila’s urban jungle.
This Holiday season, Leeroy worked with SM Aura Premiere for Astreopora, an interactive sculpture installation that also serves as a shade for picnickers and a canopy for events.
The artwork has aquatic details that are made of different reinvented materials ranging from fruit baskets to food covers to cups and plastic hose.
