#Leadership: How to Generate Better Millennial Leaders?

millennial leaders

Before we move forward, it is important that we admit first that there really is a huge leadership gap, especially between Gen X and Millennials. Actually, even between aging Millennials and the young Millennials, the leadership gap can also be noticed.

Now, this is important because without recognizing the gap, we can drive away top performers that could bring our organization up a notch. Moreover, this can result in having a weaker organization.

By knowing this, let’s take a look at the myths that block how we can produce better millennial leaders.

Myths

1. External Circumstances

Allowing millennials to get away with failure because of things they say they cannot control. For instance, having a young employee who is always late because they have to attend to their grandparent’s needs.

2. Superstitions

Not pushing millennials further to reach their full potential because we accept their weird beliefs.

3. Vanity

Thinking so highly of oneself.

4. Political Correctness

We say things in a super sensitive way, which results in having unteachable people in the team. This tends to be inefficient.

5. Entitlement

Believing that they deserve something they are not willing to pay the price for.

6. Impatience

Hopping from one job to another.

How to address these myths?

1. You control the world by controlling yourself. Although there are things that are out of your control, you can control how you react to them. You can make your own adjustments.

2. The sincerity of your beliefs will not make them real. You have to validate them objectively.

3. What you are becoming is more important than what you are projecting.

4. Embrace painful truths.

5. You get what you work for. You have to give up (some things) in order to go up.

6. Great things take time to achieve. Learn to stay.

Final note: You are either walking the way or in the way.
