Laboracay 2020? This is what Boracay looks like this Labor Day weekend

Obviously, there is no Laboracay 2020 event nor there are other summer escapades in paradise this time of the year.

With the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) still in effect in high-risk areas and the general community quarantine (GCQ) in other areas, it is virtually impossible to fly to Boracay right now and just bask in its splendor.

So, people who live there are probably some of the luckiest in terms of having an amazing summer view during the lockdown.

In the past, Boracay has been home to Laboracay – a summer beach festival that is becoming a cultural celebration where Filipinos and foreigners flock to revel in one of the most amazing islands in the world. Basically, it is comprised of beach parties, great music, and overflowing booze. Parties happen from sunrise to sundown, much like spring break events, which makes Boracay the island that never sleeps during Labor Day weekend.

Even without Laboracay, the island will be packed with people especially this time of the year, and since it’s Labor Day weekend, it’s likely that it would get crowded sans lockdown.

However, 2020 seemed to have made a turn in the wrong direction. With the COVID-19 pandemic, movement virtually everywhere is restricted.

Still, our good friend Fritz Mendez, who is based in the lovely island of Boracay provided us a peek of “Laboracay 2020.”

He sent us this photo of Boracay that he took today, May 1. This area used to be lined with crowds of people but it is empty right now.

He said that it was technically “Laboracay” so he wanted to grab a beer but since GCQ is in effect, he’ll settle for coffee instead.

Coffee with a view, that is.

He also went around the island to check out the usual locations of parties. The clubs are closed so it looks like the island will be quiet again later despite it being Labor Day weekend.

Still, it’s a beautiful place to be in.

Oh, we’re totally envious of you, Fritz! Grabe, ang ganda!!!

Are you looking forward to visiting Boracay again? Where else are you going after the lockdown?
