WHAT IS INTERNET OF THINGS AND WHY IS IT RELEVANT TO OUR LIVES?

For those who are not as familiar, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a term that refers to “all devices that collect and transmit data via the Internet” 1. Simply put, this term is a “machine to machine communication” 2 which no longer requires assistance of humans to actually function. These connections date back in the early years, and in fact, everyone in the world is actually using at least one item that uses this technology. The lack of the right term to address such technology might be a better explanation why majority of people may have not known this phrase, but it does not necessarily mean that it is not being used by many. One good early example of the internet of things is the usage of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), which are dated back in 1974. More modern examples are cellphones, laptops, and wearable devices like the iWatch or Fitbit.

With the continuous rise of the tech industry in the Philippines, major companies and start-ups are catching on the new revolution that this type of platform has to offer. The IOT Summit aims to drive more opportunities to this unceasing movement of IoT in the country, as well as prepare the industry and community in the foreseeable future, where most devices will also take part to this one of a kind technology.

The Internet of Things Summit Philippines 2016 is happening on March 4-5, 2016 at the Megatrade Hall 3, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong, Philippines. The event is organized by Econnext Ideas and Media and Red Wizard Events Management in partnership with DOST-ICTO and supported by Smart, Smart Devnet, and PLDT Innolab with  American Technologies.
