Jennifer Lawrence’s Film “mother!” Booed at the Venice Film Festival

Jennifer Lawrence mother

We know Jennifer Lawrence as a kooky actress who knows how to kick butt and fling arrows. But we’re going to see a new side to the actress in her new film mother!, a psychological horror film.

There’s not much about the film, except a short description that goes, “A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.”

It is a much-anticipated film, but Kyle Munzenrieder from magazine reports that the film was booed at the screening at the Venice Film Festival. He wrote, “Darren Aronofsky’s mother! was greeted by some boos during its premiere at the Venice Film Festival,” but adding that “boos in the audience were audibly battling it out with cheers as well.”

Booing at screenings during film festivals is a normal occurrence. When Okja premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the crowd booed when the Netflix title card was screened.

However, it is worth nothing that mother! has received praise from critics. Variety said that the film will “leave you in breathless chortling spasms of WTF disbelief,” while Slate called it “totally insane.” Meanwhile, Collider said that it is “a carnival ride of horrific human behavior.”

Watch the trailer below:

mother! is directed by her boyfriend, Darren Aronofsky, who also directed the acclaimed films Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, and Jackie.

Lawrence will star with Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Ed Harris, Brian Gleeson, and Kristen Wiig.

mother! will premiere on October 13, which by the way, is Friday the 13th.
