JCI Philippines: Empowering Young People to Create a Positive Change

The When in Manila team recently had the privilege of having a fun and productive training session with Haresh Daswani. It’s tough to describe who Haresh is. For starters, Haresh provides career development training. He sells eco-friendly products. He is also a published author, a comedian, the current 2016 Regional Vice President for Metro South of JCI Philippines, a columnist for Global Free Press in Canada, and the Admin of the page Lord Shiva pictures in Facebook. He is also into online retail with Lazada.

I interviewed him about his thoughts on business, comedy, and managing priorities here.

One of the things that stood out in that previous interview is how highly he prioritizes JCI Philippines. When asked about how he figures out which projects to say yes to and which to turn down, he answered, “I look at my time and priority. Family first, Business second, JCI third, everything else comes after.”

Naturally, this got me interested about JCI. What is so important about it, that it manages to be one of his top three priorities? In case this got you interested as well, here’s a little bit of information about JCI Philippines in the words of Haresh himself.

JCI is one of your top priorities. What about your activities in JCI give you so much purpose and fulfillment?
I enjoyed the trainings that I received in JCI. The trainings were there not only to make me a more effective member, but to be effective in business and other endeavors as well. I have also had a lot of fellowship activities where I meet other people, run projects as project chair that made me more effective in becoming a leader, and take official positions where I gained new insight on the area of leadership. It is a university of leadership, as well as an organisation of opportunities.

How do you become part of JCI?
You contact any member or officer of any JCI chapter you want to join and they will invite you to Opportunity To Impact. During the seminar, you will learn and understand what JCI is all about and how JCI exists to help people become leaders as well as how we are able to help society.
If you were to come up with an elevator pitch for recruiting someone to JCI, how would you do it?
JCI Is an organization of opportunities, as well as a leadership university. We provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.
What are your tasks as the 2016 Regional Vice President for Metro South?
