Jared Leto to Star as Lestat in Interview with the Vampire Reboot?

Growing up, Anne Rice’s vampire novels played a big part in my life. I was obsessed with the entire Vampire Chronicles and my favorite vampire in the series was Lestat by far. Since I am a huge Tom Cruise fan, too, I absolutely loved the 1994 movie adaptation of Interview with the Vampire, though the movie adaptation of Queen of the Damned wasn’t that great. Still, I wouldn’t say that they necessarily need reboots, especially since the first films are still fresh in my mind and heart.

Sadly, Hollywood seems to be running out of ideas as they have been churning out reboots and sequels left and right, and their next target is apparently The Vampire Chronicles. Yes, Universal plans to reboot Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, merging them into one movie – and the frontrunner for Lestat himself? Jared Leto.

Lestat Jared Leto

The rumour started circulating when Josh Boone, who will be writing the new version, tweeted the photo above with the caption “Lestat – there can be only one. #JaredLeto.” No one knows where the photo is from and whether it is a coincidence that Jared’s hair in it is blonde and he has a lion sigil on his coat (Lestat’s full name is Lestat de Lioncourt), but it is pretty clear who Josh would like to see in the role.

What about you? Do you think this reboot is a good idea? Do you think Jared Leto would make a good Lestat?
