Is Raymond Gutierrez Competing in the Cannes Film Festival?

Is TV host, editor, and columnist Raymond Gutierrez competing in the Cannes Film Festival? It appears so as Gutierrez’s short film Imago is competing in the Short Films section, as announced on the festival’s official website.

The thing is, it’s a different Raymond Gutierrez. In fact, the competing director’s name is Raymund. One website attributed the film to the TV host, but he quickly dispelled the misinformation by posting a picture on Instagram. He said, “This is brilliant! ???????????????????????? I got the weirdest message yesterday from press asking me to comment on my “film entry” without them realizing it was a different Raymond Gutierrez. ???? Congratulations to the other Raymond and good luck in Cannes! As for me, the only directing I’ll be doing tonight is the anniversary of the @palacepoolclub! See you there! ???????????? (BRB changing my name to @direkmond)”

Out of the 5,008 entries, Imago was selected as one of the 10 to compete. It is the only short film from Asia.

The Short Film Palme d’Or, to be awarded by Japanese director Naomi Kawase, president of the Cinéfondation and Short Films jury, at the festival’s awards ceremony on May 22.

Gutierrez will be up against entries from France, the UK, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, Romania, Italy, and Sweden.

The Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 11 to 22 in France.
