Inspiring: Handicapped Trail Runner Traverses 15KM to Mt. Sembrano Summit

Trail running is a sport that involves running and hiking over trails usually to reach the summit of a mountain. It is largely different from road or track running because it entails hiking on trails like on a mountainous terrain that involves many large ascents and descents. Basically, for me, it’s when you give regular running a shot of steroids.

Going viral on Facebook is a photo taken by Jan Rhen Rapista and posted by Jael Wenceslao.

It is an inspiring photo of a handicapped trail runner doing 15 kilometers at the DBB Mount Sembrano Challenge in Pililla, Rizal.

This morning (May 29, 2016) at the DBB Mount Sembrano Challenge, as I was bombing the last 4K downhill to the finish, I saw this runner. He was doing the 15K distance (I did the 30K). I didn’t hesitate to stop and shake his hand and tell him, “Good job, sir.” My race time and place/podium became insignificant.

I honestly don’t know how he was able to scale the trail to the summit of Mt. Sembrano (around 2,000+feet above sea level). There were moments where I had to use my hands to climb/hike the assault. And then go back down on rocky trails (I almost twisted my ankle a few times). And him? I am in awe. #respect

What’s your excuse?

This truly is amazing.

I hope it inspires a lot of us to conquer any passion that we have despite anything that we think will prevent us from doing so. No more excuses.

Good job, sir!

Yeah, what’s your excuse?
