When in Manila, you will never run out of creative geniuses and passionate artists. Last April 19, 2017 Adobo Magazine celebrated its 11 years of creativity and passion with no less than awarding the best and the brightest in design and creativity.
With its 20 categories, 122 finalists emerged out of 400 entries submitted to Adobo Design Awards 2017. For the second year, Adobo Magazine has the full support of D&DA, a global association for creative advertising and design, which makes the competition a really tough one. With this year’s theme, “Inspiring Humanity through Design”, the leadership does not solely aim to produce creative excellence but to also inspire creativity with a purpose.
Joining in the ranks of the highly esteemed judges was led by no less than D&AD’s President, Bruce Duckworth. He was joined by Tokyo’s most award-winning creative director from Dentsu Tokyo, Inc., Yoshihiro Yagi, renowned local designers, artists, and agency executives, such as Merlee Jayme, chairmom and chief creative officer at Dentsu Jayme Syfu; CJ de Silva-Ong, associate creative director at TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno; Patrick Cabral, typographer and calligrapher; Dan Matutina, founding partner at Plus63 Designs; Robert Alejandro, founder and designer at RAD; Jowee Alviar, co-founder and creative director at Team Manila; Harvey Tolibao, Marvel and DC Comics artist; Wawi Navarroza, internationally acclaimed photographer and founder at Thousandfold; Quark Henares, film director and head of Globe Studios; and Ivan Despi, owner and creative director at The Acid House.

A birthday won’t be complete without a ceremonial blowing of the birthday cake.
The night ended with another number and a giant light mascot. The night full of creativity and passion from both professionals and students showcased cultural diversity not only in the country but across Asia. And indeed, design knows no boundaries especially when passion and creativity collides it goes beyond borders.
“All of this art, if it pushes goodness, somehow it will inspire goodness among ourselves in this world. And that for me is the whole purpose why we’re here and why we’re creative.”
– Merlee Jayme, Dentsu Jayme Syfu
