Antipolo has become a destination for food and art lovers alike. This month, Crescent Moon Café is holding five hands-on workshops and serving up a scrumptious Southeast Asian buffet, for a day of gastronomy and creativity.
I Made It!, Crescent Moon’s hands-on workshop series is back on April 29, this time featuring arts and craft beer. Try your hand at pottery, photography, sewing, silk screening, and beer 101. For P2,500, participants get to choose two of the five workshops and enjoy buffet lunch at the restaurant.
Stick around after the workshops for some live music, local craft beer, and Asian street food.

Classes and teachers
Pottery (stoneware hand building) with Lanelle
Let’s play with clay! Learn hand building techniques and create your own ceramic masterpiece. The class includes a tour of Lanelle’s pottery studio on site.
Lanelle Abueva-Fernando has been in the ceramic business since 1981. She graduated with a Certificate in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines Diliman, later apprenticed with a potter in Hachijojima, Japan for three years, and furthered her studies in ceramics at the Sun Valley Center For The Arts in Idaho, USA. Her handmade pieces are on display at Crescent Moon.
Simple Sewing with Amber
This class is about creating something useful and uncomplicated that can be used to make a number of home pieces from table runners to throw pillows or curtain panels. The project is simple with clean lines and a straightforward technique We will use colorful fabric and individualize them with embellishments of different notions including ribbon, pompoms, and tassels. Take your pick. My hope is that you will be inspired to start some projects right away.
Amber Folkman (a.k.a. A Momma Abroad) has a love for textiles, creating and fabric adventures! Amber has been sewing since she was a wee girl as her mother taught her to hem curtains, sew pants and simple skirts. Through the years she has taken fashion design courses for basic clothing construction and theater costume design. Her love for sewing and creating has been with her for each stage of life from her bathing suits as a little girl, to prom dresses, her wedding dress, home furnishings and now sewing whatever her three little boys dream up. A teacher by trade it only seems right that combining her love for sewing and skills of teaching that she embarks on instructional classes. Come join and we will learn and create together.
Silk Screening with Leslie
Learn about the process and principles of silkscreen printing, and explore design through print. Participants will make and print their own designs on shirts, tote bags and/or other possible surfaces. Materials will be provided for but attendees are encouraged to bring a shirt or any piece of clothing or material where they would want their designs to be printed on.
Leslie delos Reyes is a visual artist, designer, creative consultant, and mom to three adorable little punks. She is currently teaching art to kids and working on various consultancies for design and livelihood programs. She has been designing silk screen projects since 2005.
Slow Photography with Caloy
Summer is here! What better way to capture and share moments from your travels and adventures than through pictures!
This class is a throwback to #SlowPhotography in the age of Snapchat and Selfies. It aims to equip students with the skills to create stories with their images, whether this be shown in 24 hours on snapchat, or forever in a gallery. There is no minimum tech requirement- bring your phone and your favorite filters, show up with your dad’s old instamatic or your top of the line DSLR.
Caloy Soliongco directs digital commercials (the ones you skip on YouTube) for a living. He works mostly in sports and beauty (go figure) having worked with brands like Nike, Adidas and Under Armour on spots for their NBA MVPs, while figuring out the nuances of hair color and strength for brands like L’oreal and Sunsilk. Photography is his first love, first getting work published as a 17-year-old film student at the University of the Philippines.
His photographs have graced the lifestyle sections of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star, as well glossies like Rogue Magazine, Men’s Health Philippines, and Plant Magazine.
Beer 101 with James
Find out everything there is to know about this beverage that is loved around the world. Learn beer history, basic ingredients, how to make different types of beer, and the brewing process. Of course, class would not be complete without samples of local craft beer.
The workshop will be run by James Gatlabayan, owner of Santiago Brewery & Malthouse. Established in 2014, Santiago Brewery & Malthouse is the country’s first commercial grain malting company. They process various local and imported cereal grains such as barley and sorghum into malt for use in the craft beer brewing and distilling industry. Their brewery division brews to showcase Santiago Malthouse’s different malts. They have produced several exotic and experimental beverages using exclusively in-house malts.
