Hey, surface dwellers, “Aquaman” is now the highest-grossing DC movie internationally

Aquaman

If you loved the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie Aquaman, we have great news: the movie is now officially the highest-grossing DC movie overseas!

The film has made $681 million (roughly P35.6 billion) internationally, bringing its total earnings to $940.7 million (roughly P49.2 billion). It beats the previous record for the highest international earnings, 2016’s The Dark Knight Rises‘ $636.8 million (roughly P33.3 billion).

Critics have also praised Aquaman, with Rotten Tomatoes claiming that it “swims with its entertainingly ludicrous tide, offering up CGI superhero spectacle that delivers energetic action with an emphasis on good old-fashioned fun.”

The film follows the origin story of the titular character as he becomes entangled in a war between the surface world and the Atlanteans below the sea who want to revolt.

It stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman and he is joined by Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, and Willem Dafoe.

It is directed by James Wan.
