They say that a house is made of bricks and beams, but a home is made of hopes and dreams.

This Christmas, Habitat for Humanity’s SJCS Campus Chapter aims to partake in the joys of Christmas through two outreach programs. These will be held on the 13th of December at Barangay Tanza, Navotas, Metro Manila. This activity is held in order to celebrate International Volunteers Day in early December and initiate the launch of Habitat Young Leaders Build 2019.

The first program includes a house painting activity entitled Paint Builds. Volunteers will spend the morning painting over ten newly-built houses, as well as interacting with the members of the community. This will not only allow volunteers to give back in the Yuletide season, but will also allow the community members to be able to live in more decent homes. The Paint Builds event will be a perfect picture of camaraderie amongst people who aim for a progressive society. This event is the first step towards the goal of creating not just a house, but a home for the Filipinos.

The second part will be held in the afternoon and is a simulation of a Christmas bazaar, called ‘Street Store.’ Simply speaking, it is a marked-down garage sale. In this event, numerous booths will be set up around the gymnasium of the barangay. Beneficiaries will then be able to purchase goods with marked-down prices from different stalls. This event will teach the kids how to properly budget and value their money. By providing them with an avenue to experience the joys associated with Christmas shopping, Habitat for Humanity’s SJCS Campus Chapter aims to rekindle hope this Advent season.

Washington Irving once said, “Christmas is a season for kindling the fire for hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.” With this, Habitat for Humanity’s SJCS Campus Chapter invites everyone to partake in the Christmas spirit by sharing a part of them for the betterment of society.
