Guy promposes with own version of La La Land’s “Another Day of Sun”

He’s reaching for the heights and chasing all the lights that shine.

High school student Jacob Staudenmaier from Phoenix, Arizona prom-posed to La La Land leading actress Emma Stone through a parody of the film’s opening number “Another Day of Sun” where he sang some excerpts of the song lyrics and also improvised, which included details of his prom night and him growing up in Arizona. He uploaded the video in his Twitter and YouTube accounts. Since then, it has trended online, receiving acclaim from La La Land fans and alike.

The opening scene consists of cars stuck on a highway in Los Angeles, where passengers sang and danced amidst the traffic jam. It was reported that Jacob sought help from teachers, classmates and peers as extras to film the video and complete the dance number.

Donning a tuxedo, what’s additionally interesting is that Jacob has an uncanny resemblance of Ryan Gosling – blue eyes, blonde hair, oval shaped face .. yes, he looks just as dreamy, too!

“People say I look like Ryan Gosling, and maybe that’s a bit far-fetched,” he says in the video.

He captions on YouTube:

“I decided to ask Emma Stone to prom by recreating the opening scene from La La Land, her most recent movie. I rewrote the lyrics to the song myself and directed the video and did the choreography too, but thank you so much to all the friends and adults who came out to help make it happen. Especially my friend Alli Gooch who did the camera work and Dash McDonald who fixed the coloring for the video. Big thanks to my film teacher too, Eric Luse Prom for: Arcadia HighSchool, my names Jacob Staudenmaier, you can email me at jstaudenmaier11@gmail.com”

In his interview with Billboard, he mentions that the idea of asking the award-winning actress started off as a joke, and mentions that he has a “backup date in case the actress doesn’t see his video”.

“So maybe I can buy you dinner, it’ll make my night and maybe make yours too,” he sings. “But I don’t know, it’s up to you.”

“I know my voice aint great, but please be my prom date .. in the valley of the sun!” he finishes.

Hoping for the best, Jacob!
