Got A Flight To Catch? DPWH Recommends Alternative Routes To The Airport While NAIA Expressway Work Is Ongoing

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has issued a statement in regards to possible traffic issues surrounding construction work at the new NAIA Expressway. This advice is mainly aimed at members of the public planning to travel to or from Ninoy Aquino International Airport by road in the near future.

The general advice for motorists by the DPWH is to consider using EDSA and Roxas Boulevard when going to and coming from the airport while construction of the 7.15 kilometer four lane elevated expressway is ongoing. The department anticipates that traffic in the areas of Andrews Avenue, Domestic Road, MIA Road and Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard will be affected while the project is being worked on.

To date, the project is only at about 10% completion rate, meaning there will be many more months of even heavier traffic than normal, so allow plenty of time when heading to NAIA during this period of construction. Road works are split into two phases, with Phase II-A between Entertainment City to NAIA Terminals 1 & 2, and phase II-B from Domestic Road to Terminal 3 at Sales Street.

Estimated to be completed in October 2015, the DPWH anticipates that up to 80,000 travellers per day will benefit from this vital improvement to the road network.
