In the Philippines, animal welfare leave much to be desired. Although the Animal Welfare Act prescribes penalties for animal cruelty and neglect, there is still much to be done to assure that animals are cared for.
Thank God for people like Cher Herrera who take extra effort to help save some of these helpless creatures. When she found out that there were 64 dogs in the Bacolod City pound who were scheduled to be put to sleep, she decided to do something about it. Just so she could make sure that the dogs are saved, she decides to temporarily adopt all of them.

Sobrang desperado na po ako katulad ng 64 na aso na ito na ngangailangan ng tulong nyo na naka schedule ngayong ara na ito na patayin! Nabayaran ko na po adoption fee nila lahat para ma save pero last week pa ako naghahanap ng place na pwede malagyan muna sa kanila habang hinahanapan ng ma adopt pero wala talaga ako makita. Hindi po ako mayaman, maliit lang po ang haus ko pero napagkasya ko ang 13 dogs na nauna ko adopt last week plus 4 dogs ko na dati. Kung may mag adopt satin bawat member dito kahit isa lang, kulang pa ang 64 dogs na aso na ito mula sa pound. Please help me at least place na malagyan ko sa kanila. Ako na po bahala sa pagkain at pag linis. Kahit place na ma rent basta safe po sila. Maawa po sana tayo sa mga aso na ito

Guys nailabas ko na po sila at nilagay temporary sa bahay ng isang volunter din kaso this morning pinapaalis na ng homeowner association ang mga dogs otherwise ipapa barangay na po ang may-ari ng bahay at palalabasin nila mamayang gabi sa subd ang mga aso at paaalisin din ang may-ari ng bahay dahil exclusive subd po ito. Maawa po kayo pls kailangan ko ng lugar na pwede malagyan sa kanila. Kung sino po sana may vacant lot na may gate para safe lang sila hanggat makakuha ng family na ma adopt po sa kanila. Aside from better animal welfare laws and stronger enforcement, change begins with each person and each small effort we put in trying to save these lovable animals. Let us also educate ourselves on responsible pet ownership and keep in mind that being a pet owner is a privilege and a responsibility.
