Game of Thrones is not exactly the best reference for normal healthy romantic relationships. Most of them are pretty messed up in one way or another and the Lannister siblings-slash-lovers are a clear testament to that. Still, we can’t help but feel kilig sometimes and root for the less unusual couples. Or perhaps you’re into the whole incest thing and are 100% on board with those pairings.
I’ve decided to take the liberty of determining which Game of Thrones couples are “goals” and to which ones I say “oh that’s f’ed up.”
Couple Goals
Arya & Gendry
We all remember when Gendry told Arya “You would be my lady” after she basically confessed her love for him. I don’t want to spoil anything but if you’re a Gendrya shipper, you’ll probably like season 8.
Grey Worm & Missandei
These two probably have the purest love on the show. They may not have explosive chemistry, instead, their moments together are tender and subdued due to their social stations. As an Unsullied, Grey Worm was trained since a boy to strip away his emotions and humanity, yet a connection forms between him and Missandei, one of the few people who fully understand what he has been through. There’s just something about the innocence of seeing someone fall in love and become vulnerable for the first time.
Daenerys & Khal Drogo
Ignoring the fact that Daenerys was basically a mail-order bride, their romance was tragically beautiful and every other pairing pales in comparison. Their iconic pet names for each other, “Moon of my life” and “My sun and stars,” as well as their devastating ending will forever be etched in people’s memory.
Samwell & Gilly
Samwell and Gilly are super adorable together, and I’m just glad that Samwell found someone because he’s one of the few characters that deserves happiness. That’s it. That’s all I have to say.
Brienne & Jaime
Even though they’re technically just friends, I believe that these two have the most chemistry out of any other couple on the show. I still have hope that Jaime will have his redemption arc and that he can finally be with Brienne instead of, y’know, his blood sister.
