Freddie Aguilar’s ‘Anak’ Used in Lee Min Ho’s Movie Trailer

 

 

It must suck for Freddie Aguilar, who wrote the cult classic “Anak” and not be able to call it his. In one of the most controversial incidents in music history, the composer, writer, and original performer of “the best-selling Philippine music record of all time,” was arrested when he gave permission to a movie studio to use his song. He sold the rights early on to a recording studio, meaning the song is no longer his. But ownership aside, the song will forever be Freddie’s, and we will think of him whenever we hear the song.

We heard it again, and this time it’s from an unlikely source. “Anak” was recently used in Gangnam Blues‘ new trailer, a Korean noir film starring K-pop superstar Lee Min Ho. The film is set in the 70’s before Gangnam became a business district and a luxury shopping area (and a song), and how political powers and the criminal underworld battled to gain control of the developing district.

We’re not sure how Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak” contributes to the story, but it adds emotional depth to the trailer. Watch the full video below:
