Filipino Tri-Athlete to Swim a Staggering 1,000 Laps in 13 Hours for Animal Welfare

Filipino Tri-Athlete to Swim a Staggering 1,000 Laps in 13 Hours for Animal Welfare

Last year, she swam 900 laps (22.5 kilometers). For over 13 hours, she swam the length of a 25-meter pool to raise enough funds for the rehabilitation and medical expenses of rescued animals in the care of CARA Welfare Philippines, an animal welfare group based in Manila. But before the gruelling swim, she called for supporters to pledge 1 Peso or more for each lap that she would do.

She was in the water as early as 7 a.m and by 8 p.m., she had swum 900 laps and raised 80,570 pesos.

This year, 24-year old Hanna Sanchez , former member of the De La Salle University Green Tankers varsity team, aims to surpass last year’s record and will swim 25 kilometers in one day to raise 100,000 pesos!

This next Ultra Swim will be held on August 16 at the Enrique M. Razon Pool at De La Salle University along Taft Avenue in Manila.

She did it before and she will do it again, and then some–all for the sake of our animal companions who have been abandoned, abused and neglected.

If I can only help all the animals in the world,  I would but I am just one person. I can’t give a lot of money because I am not rich. My humble plea is to help me help animals in need.

There are a lot of animal companions suffering. We cannot just abandon them. All they need is a little help with their medical expenses until they find a good home. It is not easy for them to experience such abuse from the people who are supposed to love them.

CARA helps by taking the animals in. They treat them until they can be adopted by a loving family. But CARA is a non-profit organization. They need funds so that they can continue helping animals who have been abandoned, abused and left to die. We ask help together with CARA for any amount that you can donate to help these animals go to a good home.

I want to help them by dedicating my time and effort. I will be swimming 13 hours for all those animals in need. I am asking my friends and all animal lovers to hear my call. You can donate a fixed amount or pledge per lap. Any amount you will donate is of great help to these animals. It will only take a minute to read the poster and donate.

Thank you very much. — Hanna Sanchez

The funds will divided among the three programs of CARA.

  • Medical Rescue Fund
  • Charity Kapon Fund
  • Laguna Pit Bulls Dog Food Fund
