Filipino Reporter on Why we Should Move on From the Miss Universe Drama

The Miss Universe 2015 was held five days ago but people are still talking about it – and not for the right reasons. It’s perfectly understandable when you consider that the host announced the wrong winner after she was crowned, but one entertainment reporter says we should stop the negativity and move on.

Within minutes of the fiasco, netizens posted mean things about the two finalists Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez and Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Miss USA Olivia Jordan received death threats after being supportive of Wurtzbach, while there are talks of suing host Steve Harvey over the monumental gaffe.

Ruben Nepales, a reporter from the Philippine Daily Inquirer, speaks out:

Please stop posting and sharing negative comments and downright ridiculous conspiracy theories about the Miss Universe/Steve Harvey gaffe.

The stuff being shared and shared on Facebook is getting out of hand. Steve Harvey has apologized and admitted his mistake — it was an honest mistake, period, and it was decent of him to admit it.

Miss Colombia posted a gracious statement that said, in part, “I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe. The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS.”

And Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach is in New York to begin her reign (she posted this pic of her bound for New York–it’s her first time to be there).

So let’s move on, stay classy, reflect on and revel in the spirit of this holiday season: goodwill to all mankind.
