Diehard fans of American Idol are happy to have the 14th season of the singing reality show back, because it means discovering the next big name in the recording industry. And for Filipino fans, it means looking for Filipino contestants who can bring pride to our country. Hello, Jasmine Trias and Jessica Sanchez?

For the auditions, Erika David, a Fil-Am contestant, made it to the Hollywood round of the competition after impressing judges with her soulful rendition of Alicia Keys’ “No One.” In her pre-audition interview, she said that she hoped Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick, Jr. would like her sass and talent and singing. Looks like they did.

Before auditioning for American Idol, Erika has been singing for Filipino community events. She has also made a name for herself by uploading covers and original compositions on YouTube since 2007.
